CSIR-CRI LAUNCHES THIRD COHORT OF MENTORING PROGRAMME

The CSIR-Crops Research Institute (CSIR-CRI) launched the third cohort of its formal mentoring programme at the Institute on Monday, 7th February, 2022. The Institute’s mentoring programme was initiated to encourage young scientists to achieve their potential by connecting to more experienced ones. The programme gives senior scientists the opportunity to share their work experiences, scientific knowledge and networks with younger, inexperienced ones.

Modelled around the African Women in Agricultural Research and Development’s (AWARD) international mentoring programme, that has benefitted a number of female researchers at the Institute, the Institute initially launched its version with a first cohort of mentees in March, 2016.  A second cohort of twenty-seven (27) mentees completed their programme and were awarded their certificates in 2019.

In her presentation, the coordinator of the mentoring programme, Dr. (Mrs.) Patricia Pinamang Acheampong, encouraged mentees to develop a purpose road of their expectations from the programme. Mentees were also advised to commit to the programme in order to reap all its benefits.

The Deputy Director, of the Institute, Dr. Maxwell Darko Asante, who launched the programme pointed out that, the Institute will incorporate the mentoring programme in the orientation of newly employed staff and urged both mentors and mentees to participate fully in it.
