 Dr. Bright Owusu Asante completed St. Augustine’s College and has been a research scientist with the CSIR-Crops Research Institute since 2009 after he was upgraded from a Principal Technical Officer.
He holds a Ph.D. (Agricultural and Resource Economics) from the University of New England, Armidale, Australia in addition to an M.Phil. (Agricultural Economics) and a B.Sc. (Agriculture) from the University of Ghana and the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology respectively.
He is the lead author in most of his scientific publication which have been published in very reputable local and international journals. He is also a reviewer for a number of scientific journals.
Since 2017, he has been the leader of management, M&E, for the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation (BMGF)-funded Community Action in Improving Farmer Saved-Seed Yam (CAY-Seed) Project. He is currently the Project Co-ordinator of the Institute’s Agricultural Productivity Technology Centre (APTC) Project.
Dr. Asante has been involved in the development and release of numerous crop varieties since he joined the Institute. These include various varieties of yam, rice, maize and legumes.
